My college degree represents much more than a personal milestone. It is a testament of resilience, love and hope. It is a commitment to my family that their sacrifices were meaningful and a promise to my community that I will give back. That sense of purpose motivates me every single day.

My parents made the brave decision to immigrate to the United States, seeking a better future for me. Growing up in a low income household and not knowing English, the idea of attending a four-year university felt like an unattainable dream. However, through relentless hard work in school and extracurriculars, I earned admission to a world reknown institution, proving to myself that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

With my degree in forensic psychology, I hope to become a counselor – either focusing on drug and alchohol abuse or working directly with at-risk youth. As a first generation college student, I want to be someone my family can be proud of and someone who turns everything we’ve been through into something meaningful and healing for others.

I plan to use my college degree to show my family and community that continuing education beyond high school and even college is possible for us. By May 2026, I’ll be the second child in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree and the first to enroll in a master’s program. My aunt always told us growing up: “if you want to be smart, read”.
