Transition to College (T2C)
T2C helps First Generation AVID Students and Families successfully transition from high school to college
T2C addresses the ‘hidden curriculum” of college-unwritten academic, social and financial norms that often disadvantage first generation students. Through workshops, mentorship and year-round support, AVID alumni gain the tools and confidence to thrive academically, financially, and emotionally during their first year of college.
Developed by the Alliance, T2C ensures that AVID students enter college on more equal footing with peers whose families have navigated higher education.
Key Components:
- Summer Workshop Series: a two-week workshop series featuring interactive sessions on academic skills, financial literacy, campus life, mental health and more. Delivered by professionals and AVID alumni.
- Parent Engagement: Spanish-language support, dedicated parent sessions, and access to bilingual resources to help families navigate this transition together.
- Ongoing Support: open office hours, individual coaching, peer mentorship, alumni networking and paid internships throughout the academic year.
Proven Impact: 100% of past participants would recommend the program to future GHS AVID grads; 96% rated content as highly relevant.
T2C bridges the gap so first-gen students start college ready to succeed!
Funding for T2C comes from the Greenwich United Way, the Greenwich Department of Human Services and generous sponsors who support AVID SUCCESS initiatives
