AVID SUCCESS

Drawing on our experience working with AVID First-Gen college students, the Alliance created a group of programs to support them as they transition to college, navigate the college years, and graduate into the workforce.

Transition to College (T2C)

Summer workshop series and open office hours for recent GHS AVID graduates designed to help them successfully transition to college.  AVID college students and graduates return to mentor their peers, bring topics to the forefront, and gain new information.

Workshop topics address:

  • Transitioning from high school to college
  • Helping families understand the college transition
  • Thriving socially, emotionally, and mentally in college
  • College study skills and academic success
  • Independent living: roommates and finances
  • Paying for college: financial aid, loans, and scholarships
  • Graduation planning and choosing a major
  • Planning for careers or graduate school
  • Finding paid summer internships

AVID Alumni Advisory Council

  • College students and graduates meet monthly with Trish Rohr, Assistant Director.
  • Participants share personal experiences, celebrate successes, and discuss current challenges.
  • The group plans reunion events and activities to strengthen connections among alumni.
  • Students help design Transition to College (T2C) workshops based on emerging student needs.
  • Participants build professional networks while creating social media and marketing materials to increase awareness of the Greenwich Alliance in the community.

Bench of Experts

  • We keep a database of professionals to speak to students about a variety of career fields.
  • Volunteers needed –  If you are interested in adding your name to the list, please do!  We will follow up when we receive your details.

Career Affinity Presentations

This is a new resource for our AVID college students and came from their questions about careers.
