As Greenwich’s education foundation, the Alliance partners closely with Greenwich Public Schools to fund innovation, expand opportunities, and inspire educators. The Alliance benefits all Greenwich residents because when every student succeeds, our entire community thrives.
Why does Greenwich need an Education Foundation?
- The Alliance helps GPS innovate faster. GPS is bigger than 85% of public school districts nationwide. As a large, high-performing district, GPS must balance many priorities within established budgets and processes. The Alliance – an independent nonprofit – can move quickly to fund new approaches and respond to the emerging needs of students and educators. Together, GPS and the Alliance move promising ideas forward and expand what works.
- Student needs vary significantly across Greenwich, with Greenwich’s population differing widely from that of its neighboring towns.
In Greenwich, at four of the district’s fifteen schools, 40% to 60% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, classifying them as Title I schools. Thirty-two percent of GPS students qualify as High Needs. High Needs students include those who qualify for Special Education services, free or reduced-price lunch benefits, or English Language Learner services. Many Alliance programs increase access to extracurricular and academic opportunities for the district’s High Needs students.
