New Lebanon School Theater Program Expands to ‘West Side One Acts’

“West Side One Acts” at New Lebanon School Wednesday night featured the work of 4th and 5th grade playwrights whose short plays were directed and performed by Western Middle School students.

The New Lebanon students participated in an Afters program where they honed their playwriting skills. Their instructions for the short plays performed in “West Side One Acts” were to feature two characters and highlight a conflict and resolution.

The theater program at New Lebanon School, now in its fifth year, is made possible by a generous grant from the Greenwich Alliance for Education. Recent student musicals have included The Addams Family and Winnie the Pooh Kids. Grants have also made possible theater residencies and field trips.

At New Lebanon School, the playwriting advisor is Carol Pugliano-Martin and the performance advisor is Johanna Kolar.
