An interactive experience for 30 campers!
"It was a rewarding experience that gave many of these students a taste of the future," exclaims Gaspare Lipari, director and designer of the first VR/AR STEAM Camp offered in partnership with the Alliance. For 5 weeks, the weekly program themes centered around Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. Thirty campers explored elements of science, math, computing, art and music. Augmented Reality is when digital objects are layered over the real world and virtual reality is a fully immersive interactive space. Many campers attended multiple weeks of camp. With the help of donations from two Greenwich Alliance patrons, we were able to pay for 13 weeks of scholarships, some specifically for girls. We also offered discounted rates for participants eligible for free/reduced price lunch plan. We ended the summer with a "Sports Olympics" camp week where participants played VR golf, tennis, archery, raced with sailboats, practiced soccer skills, played ping pong, boxed against Rocky Balboa, raced in cars and more. Campers left saying..."I'll see you next summer!" Learn more about the VR/AR STEAM camp here. |
