We're GONGing for good news in 2022!

There are many great things to celebrate and to make it LOUD & CLEAR, the AVID SUCCESS team delivered "GOOD NEWS GONGS" to the classrooms of the eight AVID teachers at GHS. 

Missy Brown and Mary Beth Liu's thirty-seven AVID seniors are banging the GONG every day as college acceptances keep rolling in.

37 GHS AVID alumni in college are celebrating scholarships! They just received $50,200 in scholarships completing the Alliance budget of $110,000 for the 2021-2022 school year. 

Since 2013, the total AVID SUCCESS Scholarship awards now exceeds $650,000 (click here for a list of scholarship award winners).

Dinner with AVID graduate, Domna Dali, was such a treat for me. Domna was part of the the "Sweet Sixteen" - the first GHS AVID class taught by Missy Brown.

Domna is flourishing in her career in the tech field and is sharing her time  and talents with the Greenwich Alliance as a mentor for current GHS AVID students. This spring she will be speaking to Mrs. Brown's current AVID seniors.  AVID works!

TITM started in 2006 with 30 students. The idea for the program came after the Alliance founders attended GHS band & orchestra concerts and noticed these award winning programs were missing a broader representation of students from around the community.

Upon learning that most of the students participating in these GHS ensembles took private music lessons outside of school (and had been for many years), the Alliance spoke to GPS music leaders about how to increase access to instrumental music opportunities for more students. Funding music lessons was the answer!

After interviewing potential partners to help administer and execute this idea, the Alliance chose the CT School of Music led by Ken Kuo. TITM represents a strong partnership between the GPS Music Department, the CT School of Music and the Alliance. Over the years, more than 800 students have received free instrumental music lessons and performed in recitals.

We were fortunate to have been generously supported by the late Mary Radcliffe who helped TITM students experience master classes taught by Greenwich Symphony Orchestra members.
