APRIL 2025

Hi Friends,

Do you know that Julian Curtiss was the inventor of the basketball? This question stumped many participants at the Trivia Challenge fundraiser. Trivia Challenge raised $80K+ for programming and we met the $25K generous match for the AVID SUCCESS Scholarship Fund. Thank you to our incredible volunteers and auction donors. Check out the pictures here.

Drum roll please .... we have awarded $1,000,000 in scholarships to 174 AVID graduates!  Students express that scholarships give them extra time to study and get involved on campus because they can work one fewer job and the funds reduce financial stress.  Inspired?  DONATE HERE!

Strategic planning is a key focus for us over the next months. We look forward to sharing the three-year plan in the fall. The Strategy Group, our consultants, first conducted an environmental scan to capture feedback about the Alliance from the community. This information is guiding our priorities for meeting the needs of Greenwich students and educators in the future.

HOPE DAY is Sunday, April 6th @ Arch Street Teen Center. This is a family event with music & activities to Smash the Stigma around mental health. Visit Greenwich Together website for more event details and resources to help out children make safe and positive choices. See you there!

New Lebanon students acting in Finding Nemo Kids play

Julian Curtiss:

Jungle Book Kids hit the stage this week with thirty-one 4th and 5th grade actors/stage crew singing, dancing, monitoring the sound and moving set pieces. Performed for classmates and parents, this fun show got everyone smiling and singing the "Bare Necessities". Thanks to 5 teachers and 19 volunteers who worked for many weeks with the cast.

New Lebanon:

Sixty-four brave 3rd-5th grade students stood up in front of a large audience and panel of judges for this year's Declamation Contest. To participate, each student memorizes and performs a sixty second portion of an historical speech or some dialogue from a favorite character in a show.

Science Bowl Teams 2025:

Science Bowl is team effort giving students a chance to explore STEM. They discuss and collaborate to gain an understanding of the scientific world we live in. This year, with a grant from the Alliance, teams at all three middle schools were assembled and supported.

The Science Bowl Competition took place at Glastonbury in February and Greenwich had 6 teams: EMS (3), WMS (2) and CMS (1). Congratulations to each of the teams! CMS finished in 4th place while EMS 2 and EMS 3 finished 7th and 8th, respectively.
