SEPTEMBER 2024

Hi Friends,

We have so much to tell you about our summer AND what's up for 2024-2025. Take a look!

  • Robotics, drone coding & flying, game design and world building came to life at the Unbound Innovations XR STEM Camp in July. What will these students do next? Check out this video.
  • College essays were rolled out for 50 students with the help of GHS teachers, guidance and Alliance volunteers. Next step, applications!
  • AVID SUCCESS Transition to College (T2C) filled in the information gap between high school graduation and the start of college for 21 first generation students.
  • Playground Communications Boards were installed at 10 elementary schools to help all children communicate easier with each other. Funding from the Alliance and the PTAs made this possible. Have you seen your school's new board?
  • Scholarships for AVID grads in college surpassed $1 million with the recent award of $77K to 48 deserving students.
  • Reaching Out Grant awardees prepped to be ready for their fall program launch - theater, science, literacy and enrichment bring new opportunities to students K-12.
  • AND, of course, race permits were secured for the TURKEY TROT, our community-wide family fundraiser on Saturday, November 30th!

Hats off to our educators on another successful school start,

Computers Make College Work Possible

Thanks to a generous donation from AT&T, we were able to purchase Macbook computers for 6 students without technology for college. These students also participated in a digital citizenship workshop taught by Lisa Dempsey, GHS Technology Coach and Business Teacher.

Transition to College (T2C) - 12+ hours of targeted programming

Feedback is overwhelmingly positive from the 21 GHS Class of 2024 AVID graduates! Thanks to Trish Rohr, AVID SUCCESS Director and 5 alumni who helped organize our second annual T2C series. Content spanned from:

  • Goal setting with Stephanie Rogen, Greenwich Leadership Partners
  • College culture with drugs and alcohol facilitated by Liberation Programs and Greenwich Together
  • Budgeting, spending and credit with The First Bank of Greenwich
  • Building Networks with Ivonne Zucco - People and Culture Consultant
