MAY & JUNE 2024

Hi Friends,

Happy graduation and summer to all!

Outstanding GHS AVID senior interns, Grejs and JP, added student voices to our office conversations, learned about non-profit work, met funders, did a "Lunch & Learn" with AVID Alumni, created communications links with their AVID12 classmates to this summer's Transition to College (T2C) workshop series, and refreshed @greenwichalliance - FOLLOW US!

Congratulations to all GHS graduates - you did it! Teachers Pilar Rabassa and Evan Olmstead celebrated their 39 AVID GHS graduates who were all accepted to college AND their former students, AVID Class of 2020, many of whom received college diplomas this spring. AVID is changing the economic trajectory of Greenwich families!

Ending the school year also means saying goodbye to Alliance board members finishing their terms. A special thank you to Sarah Goldin, Board Chair for guiding our work for four years, Stacey Loveless, Secretary for your conscientious meeting minutes, and Michele Turk for sharing her talents with AVID students writing college essays.

Great news - we are growing and it's official! I am excited to announce Trish Rohr has been hired full-time as the AVID SUCCESS Program Director. While we might be small in stature - we make a mighty team.

NEW LEBANON THEATER ARTS REACHING OUT GRANT

New Lebanon School concluded its comprehensive Theater Arts program with "Bard in the Yard". Shakespeare is called "The Bard" because he is widely recognized as the greatest poet the world has ever known.

Student performers, dressed in costume, read their lines and acted out their characters for classmates outside the school.

TUNING INTO MUSIC (TITM)

Since 2006, making private music lessons free and accessible to low-socioeconomic students in the GPS.

The TITM year-end recital featured fifty-six students playing the flute, cello, violin, viola, and a variety of band instruments. Once again students wowed their parents with their performance, had fun, and demonstrated how much they have improved this year.

Thanks CT School of Music teachers and Greenwich Public School music teachers for your continued commitment to making music possible for all students. This year marks 17,000 hours of free music lessons!
