GHS AVID 11th and 12th Meet Mentors
Facilitated by Ivonne Zucco, career coach, AVID 11 and 12th graders learned more about AVID SUCCESS mentors and how these adults might be of help to them now and later in college. Mentors participated in a panel discussion with students and also moved throughout the room speaking to students to set the foundation for future conversations.
Interested in being an AVID SUCCESS Mentor or Bench Expert? We are looking for young professionals and more seasoned community members to join us as Mentors or Bench Experts. Bench Experts have time for short phone calls from students to research career paths, plan college courses related to a specific field, discuss graduate school and more. Email mentoring@greenwichalliance.org to learn more. Good Money Habits Nancy Kail, AVID SUCCESS consultant, just taught financial literacy skills to the 8th grade AVID classes at CMS and WMS and to AVID 9th graders at GHS. Middle school students worked on the Good Money Habits Checklist and developed personal savings goals. The 9th grade students focused on savings goals, savings plans and talked about Educate & Prosper College Savings Accounts at Members Credit Union. These accounts are only available to GHS AVID students and are matched 25 cents on the dollar by the Alliance when students graduate. A Visit to Marist College Visiting college campuses is an important part of AVID. On November 16th, AVID students at CMS and WMS spent the day touring Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. |
