Dear Friends,

Celebrating creativity and innovation is easy to do at the Alliance. It is especially easy to do when speaking about The Developing Artist.

The Developing Artist captures the imagination of students who are very excited about art and, even better, those who are just not interested in it at all.

ARTS DAY - June 4 (flyer attached) is a brilliant culmination of The Developing Artist grant for the year. It sets up an outdoor work area and collaborative art studio at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.

All students who wish to participate will explore everything from drawing, painting, sculpture, installation art, murals, stained glass windows, found objects creations, photography, video and Social Practice art. Just show up 4-5:30pm!

MAY UPDATES

The Developing Artist - A Reaching Out Grant Program

The Alliance has invested $1.5 million in Reaching Out Grants (ROG) since 2006. The Developing Artist program, which began as a ROG at Eastern Middle School in 2016, has since been implemented at Central and Western, the Boys and Girls Club and has exhibited at numerous locations throughout Greenwich.

The program's goal is to give students a broader understanding of what it means to be an artist and to expose young artists to the possibilities of pursuing a career in the art field.

The program focuses on bringing a diverse group of professional studio artists into the schools to share their work, practices and experiences. Students also visit artists' studios, galleries, museums and organizations that support professional artist career development.

The program has been able to successfully adapt to remote learning by hosting virtual studio visits and ongoing virtual weekly visits to museums and galleries via Zoom.

As Ben Quesnel, program coordinator and EMS teacher states "[this grant] has allowed us to develop an enriching program that provides our students with opportunities that we would not be able to do otherwise. It makes me feel like we are doing something significant for our young aspiring students and that is why we do it."

Shout out to J. McLaughlin for helping us kick off spring in style! The 2-day event was a fun way to shop, sip and support the Alliance. Their gracious donation of 15% of sales raised $2,175. SUMMER COLLEGE ESSAY WORKSHOP

Do you have or know a rising GHS senior looking for guidance to help craft their college essay story? Register now (space is limited - 50 student maximum) for this 2-week workshop being held Mon. Aug 16th through Thurs. Aug 26th. Click here for more information and to register. Cost is $400; financial assistance available.

AVID SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Over $500k awarded to date, with $100,000 in scholarships awarded annually to AVID students in college. Please donate to help us raise these critical dollars. Learn more about the fund and how it is making a difference here.
