GHS Counseling Program offers a College Essay Workshop to rising seniors annually each August. This workshop serves as a fundraiser for the Greenwich Alliance for Education. The Alliance mobilizes community resources to provide opportunities that foster educational success for all Greenwich Public School students and we are grateful for their partnership!
During the workshop, we will focus on the personal statement of the Common Application (link to Common App essay prompts) and, if time allows for each student, supplemental essays.
Our AVID trained English teacher has prepared lessons for each day of the workshop. Instructional materials will be shared in electronic format with students. We will cap the workshop at fifty students to work with five faculty members, for a 10 to 1 ratio. Our faculty consists of English Teachers and School Counselors. The workshop includes a combination of individual work time, and live one-to-one discussion/support/editing in each of the 8 sessions. Students may keep all shared lessons and resources. We’ve learned a combination of this focused adult time and time working independently allows students to complete their essay in the two week span of time.
The workshop will be held in person, in the GHS Media Center, Monday to Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm on these dates:
WORKSHOP DATES (8 sessions):
Monday through Thursday August 19-22 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm
AND
Monday through Thursday August 26-29 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm
The fee for the 8 sessions (total of 16 hours) is $400. This fee is reduced for students who have a free/reduced lunch approval, or for students in the GHS AVID program. Please ask your school counselor or AVID teacher for this code prior to registering.
Registration is on a first come first served basis. Registration will close when we reach our maximum capacity of 50 students.
